Experience

From 1979 to 1980, I worked as a Graduate Assistant in the research section of the University Computing Services. In 1981, I started as a programmer in the administrative computing section with an assignments to work with IMS database, CICS, Cobol, Easytrieve, and JCL on the IBM mainframe.

In 1982, I accepted new assignments in the academic section of the University Computing Services. My responsibilities were to teach minicourses, to consult with faculty about computers in education, to solve problems, and to develop applications for teacheing, learning, and research. I taught cobol, assembler 1 and 2, operating systems, and database for computer science department as an adjunct faculty for the next twenty years.
From 1984 2002 my responsibilities changed frequently from group leader to coordinator, to sr. coordinator, and to special assistant to director for academic support. In this period I directed the consulting group, training programs, helpdesk activities, VAX system activities, computer application development, Educational Fair, multimedia group, computer-based distance education group, and faculty development programs. I also have led the design and development of more than seventy computer applications for academic needs of the Ball State University. Some of the computer applications were presented in the national and international conferences. In addition, from these applications many articles and research reports were published in different journals. I created Educational Fair, established Academic Application Development, designed and developed the first three Academic Artificial Intelligence, directed need assessment for purchasing ALPHA AXP and Oracle RDBMS, designed initial Helpdesk and initial training programs, directed initial computer-based distance education program, coordinated School of Nursing's three-years strategic plan for web-based courses and degree programs, and conducted national research study in computer-based distance education.
From 2002 to present my assignment changed to Special Assistant to Vice President for Information Technology. In this new assignment I contribute to the vice president's technology vision and planning. I also coordinate cross-functional teams from three IT units(Library, Teleplex, and Computing Services), working with academic and administrative units, contributing to internal and external partnerships, and engaging in research that advances the operational functions of information technology.

I published papers in refreed journals and presented at national and international conferences. I wrote a book chapter "Foreces of Changes: The Emergence of a Knowledge Society and New Generation of Learners" for Columbia University, which was published by Idea Group Publishing in July 2000. I also wrote the Operation Systems textbook for computer science students. The textbook is used in my classes and some other computer science classes. I am also Manuscript Reviewer Board of the journal of Educational Computing Research, Baywood Publishing Company.

During last fifteen years, I have taught over thirty classes in conditioning, safety, self defense, and Tai Chi Chuan for Ball State University and local communities. Most of these classes were on the volunteer base. I wrote over 40 handouts and articles about the utilization of computer in education, staff development, safety, and Tai Chi. In addition, I have taught many minicourses and have designed workshops for Ball State and Muncie community. I also created and directed annual educational fair for advancement of computer technology in the teaching and learning at Ball State University. I have been faculty member of Ball State's Elderhostel programs for four years.

I believe that learning and teaching have been positive experiences in my social, personal, and family life.
