David Watts is a poet and physician whose book of poems, Making, won the 1999 Talent House Press Award. Taking the History also was published in 1999 and the CD, Powerful Seeds, a poetry and jazz collaboration, was released in 2000. His commentaries on the practice of medicine can be heard regularly on NPR's All things Considered and his television documentary, Powerful Words: Poetry and the Art of Healing,, is due out in late 2003. He lives in Mill Valley, California, with his wife and two sons. Gabriel (pictured with his father), a major character in the poems in this book, was two and a half at the time of printing.
