Roving Across Fields

Roving Across Fields: A Conversation and Uncollecteded Poems 1942-1982, ed. Thom Tammaro, has become a collector's title. It was published by Barnwood in 1983, in an edition of 1000, of which a few remain in stock.

In December 1982 the founding editors of The Barnwood Press (Sheila Coghill, Tom Koontz, Thom Tammaro, and Michael Tate) interviewed William Stafford in Chicago, where he was a keynote speaker for the NCTE national convention. Thom Tammaro was working on his doctoral dissertation on Stafford's poetry. When the editors remarked that it would be good to publish the interview, as the "conversation" that it actually had been, Stafford suggested that it could be accompanied by a small retrospective of poems that he had published but not placed in a book and that he would enjoy seeing back in print. Stafford selected the poems for the retrospective.
