In the early morning of Sunday, August 13, 1961, the East German government began building the Berlin Wall. From 1957 to 1962 Mildred Raynold Trivers resided in the American sector of Berlin as the diplomatic wife of Howard Trivers, the Political Affairs Officer in the American Mission. The Woman Weeping Where the Wall Will Be is a four-part, 32-page, historical poem that complements her essay, "The Berlin Wall: A Memoir," recently reprinted in We Write for Our Own Time: Selected Essays from 75 Years of The Virginia Quarterly Review.
