Patricia J. McDonald was born in Los Angeles in 1955. She received her B.A. from the University of Oregon, where she studied poetry writing with John Haislip, Olga Broumas, and Ingrid Wendt. She has lived in Portland, Oregon since 1989. In April, 1993, she was diagnosed with manic depressive illness.
