Claire T. Field was born and grew up in Yazoo City, a Mississippe Delta town. She teaches English at Chattahoochee Valley Community College, in Phoenix City, Alabama. Her first book of poetry, Mississippi Delta Women in Prism, was published in 2002 by NewSouth Books.
