The Lionel J. Neiman Scholarship was established in November, 1986, to coincide with the late Professor Neiman's retirement from Ball State University. It recognizes his many contributions to the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology and to the Department's students. It is an endowed scholarship. The awards is given annually; the amount and the number of awards depend upon the balance in the account.
Criteria for Awarding the Neiman Scholarship
1. Only those students who will attend Ball State on a full-time basis during their senior year are eligible.
2. Potential recipients must be criminal justice majors, must be pursuing a bachelor's degree, must have earned at least 63 credit hours toward the bachelor's degree, and must be planning to complete a criminal justice internship.
3. Students must have a 3.0 grade point average or better at the time of application.
4. Among additional considerations for the award are financial need and university and community service activities.
5. There is no residency requirement.
6. The scholarship will be awarded to an individual regardless of sex, race, age, national origin, or ethnic background.
7. Applications are available in the Criminal Justice and Criminology Departmental Office (NQ 248). The deadline for submitting applications is March 1.
Selection Process
The Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology and the Department faculty review the applications and select the recipient for the awards.
The Chair will then inform the Office of Student Financial Aid to determine the eligibility of the recipients and will contact the Ball State University foundation to determine the available funds in the account. The Office of Student Financial Aid will present the awards to the individuals chosen to be recipients. The awards are to be applied to the student's tuition and fees.
The recipient will be selected by no later than March 21.
