Dr. McKean received his Ph.D. from Florida State University in 1983. He teaches research methods and data analysis and a graduate course in the philosophy of criminal justice. Dr. McKean has co-authored several books and has several journal articles and book chapters to his credit. Currently, he is involved in research on women and violence, assaults on law enforcement officers, and the effectiveness of drug courts. Prior to joining the Ball State faculty, Dr. McKean served as a consultant to the Florida Division of Youth Services, where he designed and implemented training for juvenile probation officers. He has also held academic appointments at Florida Atlantic University and Wichita State University.
