Center for Historic Preservation
Past Projects: Heritage Tourism Advocacy
The National Trust for Historic Preservation defines heritage tourism as the act of, "traveling to experience the places and activities that authentically represent the stories and people of the past and present." Heritage-based tourism contains two benefits: it preserves local heritage, while at the same time serving as an economic tool that can create jobs, provide new business opportunities and strengthen local economies.

The Center for Historic Preservation at Ball State University has produced a variety of heritage-based projects for several communities and organizations across the state of Indiana. Projects range from standard walking tour brochures to local heritage reports and have helped to increase local and regional heritage tourism. The information included in such projects has been used to promote the development of heritage resources and museum exhibits.
