SBSE Photo CD Slide Library
As a subsection of the
SBSE Image Gallery, SBSE has created
a collection of Kodak PhotoCDs containing the images formerly available
via manual slide duplication under the SBSE Slide Exchange
Program.
As new slide sets are contributed to the program they are added to the
Photo CD library. Copies of the individual CDs in their entirety
are available for purchase by SBSE members. Individual images or
customized sets of images are not available.
Terms of Use:
Images from
the SBSE
collections are for non-commercial, educational use only. Slides were
donated by members with the understanding that there would be limited
non-commercial, educational use by instructors. These images may not be
reproduced, stored in a retrieval system or transmitted in any form or
by any means, electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording,
scanning, or otherwise, except as permitted under sections 107 or 108
of the 1976 United States Copyright Act, without the prior written
permission of the original photographer. This
includes posting of illustrations on web sites.

Using the images on the
CD's:
SBSE CDs 001 - 015:
Images on the CDs are in Kodak's PhotoCD file format
(.pcd). This format is a compressed version of the image that
contains
multiple resolutions/sizes of the image. Image sizes that are
contained
on the CD for all images are:
192 x 128
pixels
384 x 256 pixels
768 x 512 pixels
1536 x 1024 pixels
3072 x 2048 pixels
To open and use these
images you must have image editor software
that can read Kodak's PhotoCD (.pcd) file format. Once the file
has
been opened at a particular resolution it can be re-saved into another,
more convenient file format. Most major image processing software
supports the PhotoCD format.
Examples include:
Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Pagemaker, JASC PaintShop
Pro, Ulead PhotoImpact,
MS Picture IT!, CorelDraw, MS Powerpoint, MS Word,
etc.

The image files are located on the CD in the folder: \photo_cd\images\
SBSE CD 016: Please note that CD 016 is temporarily
unavailable.
Images on this CD are in .jpg format. Summary
.pdf files are included with commentary and image thumbnails and
captions. Image sizes vary based upon the source material but are
in the neighborhood of 500 x 500 pixels. The images on this CD
are intended and licensed for electronic presentation only.

Deciding which CDs to
purchase:
SBSE CDs 001 - 015:
Further below on this web page is a listing of each
CD's
contents. In addition, below each listing, are materials that
will
allow you to view the CD's contents and any annotation, notes or papers
the authors have included with their slides to assist in their
use.
The resolution on these images is not sufficient for most end
uses.
This information is provided only to assist you in deciding which CD's
to order from SBSE. All images are described in each of the
formats
listed. The formats differ only in their resolution, their
utility
and convenience, and whether they contain the author's
annotations.
You need only download or view the format that you find most useful.
On this web site, the following materials are available
for each CD:
Index
images and authors' annotation-
portable document format files (.pdf)
This file contains low-resolution scans of the CD's image
index cards and any information concerning the slide set provided by
the
author.
This information can be viewed on-line (allows zooming
in on images) or printed as a reference.
Note: This .pdf file (in low, medium and high image resolutions)
is also included directly on the CD itself when purchased. This
ensures
that the reference materials will always be available with the
images.
You can also print and cut-out the image index sheets to use as CD
jewel
case inserts to help keep track of the CD's contents.
To view these files you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader
software installed on your computer.

Index images
and authors' annotation- web

This web page is a crude (html) version of the .pdf documents
described above. It contains low-resolution scans of the CD's
image
index cards and any information concerning the slide set provided by
the
author. The images of the slide index cards are linked to the
high
resolution .jpg versions of these images described below.
Clicking
on an index card will bring up the high resolution index card .jpg
image
for closer viewing.
Information is provided in this format primarily for
on-line viewing directly within your browser. If you desire to
print,
search, cut/paste or otherwise use this material it is recommended that
you download and use the .pdf files as described above.
Individual

These images are high resolution scans of each of the
CD's image index cards from the jewel case. This gives a look at
each image on the CD.
These files are large and will take time to download
- but they are the clearest look at the images available on the web
site.
The images may be viewed directly in your browser.
High-resolution

files (.zip)
For convenience, the high-resolution .jpg images mentioned above have
been packaged together for downloading and offline viewing. Once
downloaded, the images must be uncompressed using a decompression
software
such as WinZip (Windows) or Stuffit Expander (Macintosh).

SBSE CD 016: Please

Further below on this web page is a listing of this

contents. Due to the large number of images contained on this CD

Instead, a listing of the included projects is provided as well as a
sample
summary .pdf file from one of the projects on the CD.
