THE 29TH ANNUAL INDIANA
ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT COURSE
IS SCHEDULED FOR JANUARY 14-18, 2008

Are you new to economic development? Does your job require you to have a good understanding of economic development or to make decisions that affect the economic development of your community?

Offered annually, the weeklong Indiana Economic Development Course--known to many as "The Academy"--offers intensive training in the basic concepts, methods, and strategies of economic, industrial, business, and community development. It is a comprehensive educational experience in the theory and practice of economic development. 

This course is accredited by the International Economic Development Council. Successful completion of the course qualifies participants for admission to the Economic Development Institute, a program also accredited by IEDC.

Course Curriculum
A diverse and experienced faculty of practitioners and academicians covers the key elements of economic development. The curriculum, shared by 19 courses across the country, is augmented by state- and region-specific subject matter. The core curriculum covers the following:

  • business retention and expansion
  • strategic planning
  • marketing/business attraction
  • economic development finance
  • small business and entrepreneurship development
  • community/neighborhood development
  • real estate development and reuse
  • workforce development

Other topics for the course include:

  • building development organizations
  • development and the environment
  • understanding the global economy
  • international trade
  • community development theory
  • data gathering and analysis
  • existing industry development
