Currently and since March 1993, General
Counsel and Director of Business Affairs for Paws,
Incorporated, 5440 E. County Road 450 North, Albany,
IN 47320. Principal duties involve direction and management
of the worldwide legal affairs for the comic character
"GARFIELD," and participation in the planning,
negotiation and execution of significant business
and commercial relationships. Specific duties include:
- Assist management in the
development of strategies, priorities, and
resources for exploitation in international
markets
- Develop and implement strategies
to address infringement problems around the
world, and particularly in Asia and Latin
America
- Travel internationally to
assess and develop new business opportunities/relationships,
and to develop anti-counterfeiting plans,
with emphasis in Latin America and Southeast
Asia (including travel to Brazil, Argentina,
Turkey, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Singapore,
Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, India and Japan)
- Lead negotiator on significant
market entry relationships in The People's
Republic of China and India
- Preparation of virtually
all contracts relating to the GARFIELD program,
such as licensing, agency, joint venture,
collaboration, and contracts of a related
nature
- Responsible for preparing
negotiation points and strategies for major
prospective business relationships, and conducting
negotiations
