Committee Corridor Charrette
West Second Street Corridor Vision Plan – This project
would facilitate a visioning process for the design of
the West Second Street Corridor from Washington Street
to State Road 37 (~2.5 miles). West Second Street is a
major east/west arterial that transects Bloomington. It
is bordered by a myriad of uses including core
neighborhoods, City parks, Bloomington Hospital, and
professional, commercial, and residential uses. This
project would develop the streetscape design, preferred
land uses and their intensity, and the context of the
corridor and the surrounding environment (character
zones). The end result will give a clear vision and
definition of the design, context, and intensity of the
corridor for land uses and their relationship with the
modes of transportation within the corridor.

Citizens Advisory
Committee Studio Project'
‘Complete Street’ Design for Allen Street – This project
would formulate design recommendations with specific
emphasis on alternative transportation for Allen Street
from Henderson Street to Rogers Street (~0.6 miles).
Allen Street experiences relatively little vehicular
traffic but does present design challenges such as
appropriate crossing treatments at high traffic
intersections and right-of-way width. It is identified
to serve the needs of bicyclists and pedestrians who
wish to access key destinations such as the downtown
B-Line multi-use trail, core neighborhoods, an
elementary school, and one of the City’s most popular
parks (Bryan Park). The end result will provide a design
which facilitates use of Allen Street as a ‘bicycle
boulevard,’ encourages the use of this street as a ‘safe
route to school,’ and serve the needs of adjacent
neighborhoods.

Harrison Corridor Study
The Downtown Blueprint identified Harrison Street as a
potential location for significant infill development.
This corridor also represents an opportunity to link
Harrison Square with potential development at North
River.

Partners:
Downtown Entries/Railroad
Viaducts
Every entry to downtown Fort Wayne passes through a rail
viaduct. These monolithic concrete structures offer no
visual appeal and hinder pedestrian access. An
opportunity exists to utilize these spaces as a design
element that would enhance the downtown core.

District, Economic Development Commission, AIA
I-69 Gateways
Five interstate changes on I-69 are within the City of
Fort Wayne and offer very little visual appeal to
travelers. A landscape design study that proposed low
maintenance creative solutions that could be coordinated
with the Indiana DOT would offer both green design
opportunities as well as decreased maintenance cost to
INDOT.

South Anthony Corridor
Study
South Anthony Boulevard has been identified as the “Main
Street” of the SE Quadrant by the SE Development
Strategy. Anthony connects IPFW/Ivy Tech to the north
with Southtown Centre to the south. The development of a
conceptual design plan for the corridor is the next step
in potential improvements to the corridor.
Timeline: TBD
Partners: City of Fort Wayne, Downtown Improvement
District, Economic Development Commission, AIA
Broadway
Corridor Study
The Broadway corridor is a major gateway that comes into
downtown from the southwest side. Business owners on the
corridor are beginning to meet to begin discussion about
potential development in the area.
Timeline: TBD
Partners: City of Fort Wayne, Downtown Improvement
District, Economic Development Commission, AIA
Neighborhood Infill Study
The West Central Neighborhood CHDO and the Emanuel
Lutheran Church are interested in developing a
development strategy and plan for infill housing in the
Historic West Central Neighborhood. The development area
is within blocks of Harrison Square and just off the
Broadway corridor.
Timeline: TBD

District, Economic Development Commission, AIA
Washington
Boulevard Gateway
Washington Blvd. is the primary entrance to downtown
from the east. Both the East Central Neighborhood and
Memorial Park Neighborhood have recently completed
neighborhood plans with the assistance of the City but a
more focused look at the area as a gateway to downtown
could be valuable. This project could also focus a look
at al gateways into downtown.

Mixed-Use
Development Site (ICMA)
South Anthony Boulevard has been identified as the “Main
Street” of the SE Quadrant by the SE Development
Strategy. Anthony connects IPFW/Ivy Tech to the north
with Southtown Centre to the south. The development of a
conceptual design plan for the corridor is the next step
in potential improvements to the corridor.
Timeline: TBD

District, Economic Development Commission, AIA
West Main
Street Corridor Study
West Main Street in downtown Fort Wayne offers very
little visual appeal and low pedestrian satisfaction. A
design study looking to anchor the Courthouse with high
traffic properties to the west could create renewed
interest in the corridor.

Indianapolis
IHC-Canal Park/Central
Park
Canal Park Advocates believe these goals are not
sufficient to justify a commercial development on this
prime park site and civic space. We believe the
rationales presented by CPA justify the ultimate use of
this one-acre property as a park.

I-65Gateway Enhancement
Project
Improve Public Safety: address concerns stemming from
inadequate lighting and the altogether unappealing and
generally poor appearance of the underpasses.
Stimulate Local Economic Development: stimulate
development and use of commercial properties within a
block of the underpasses.
Cultivate Neighborhood Cohesion: encourage more
pedestrian flow between neighborhoods north and south of
I-65 by making the underpasses more safe and inviting.
Contribute to Downtown Economic Development: promote
living, shopping, and working environments in downtown
neighborhoods, by creating a positive impression of
downtown for vehicular traffic as passengers enter
downtown from the north gateway arteries.
Create Destination Points: transform commonplace, purely
utilitarian, features of urban living into unique,
attractive assets, thereby advertizing the creative
dynamism of living downtown.

Marion
Veriana Relocation Study
Veriana has an interest in the I-69 & State Road 18 land
development project in Marion, Indiana as it relates to
positioning our business for growth. In addition to your
leadership and involvement in emerging media and its
connection to Veriana with the Center for Media Design,
we are interested in the potential “green” initiatives
that might be integrated and deployed via consultation
with the Ball State University College of Architecture
and Planning.

Isonagol Center Master
Plan
In long term planning, we look towards a complete
overhaul of current facilities. In the future, we would
like to see Isanogel move towards development of several
smaller cabins that could each sleep approximately 10
campers and 4 staff. Ideally, we would like to see
approximately 8 of the smaller cabin buildings. We are
also looking to increase the indoor program space
available. We would like to see at least one structure
that would be a safe storm shelter able to accommodate
150 individuals. We also look forward to increasing
program options with the potential addition of a
pond/lake for fishing, horse barn and trails, and an
archery range. Ideally, we would like to see central air
in all facilities (including an updated health center
and the lodge). The kitchen facilities are also in need
of update to include better functionality in design.

TC Steele Flower Garden
Design Project
Our site is the T.C. Steele Memorial in Brown County. On
this site is Mr. Steele’s home and studio. The Indiana
State Museum owns the art and DNR manages the property.
Mrs. Steele (Selma) had a well known flower garden. We
believe Heritage Flowers have a legitimate basis in
history at this site. An artistic greenhouse is another
opportunity for a worthy attraction. It is essential
that the T.C. Steele site be the Flower Capital of
Indiana, otherwise the attraction will not meet our
tourism goals.

neighborhood improvement.

Enchanted Hills
Neighborhood Study
Provide assistance to a remote part of Kosciusko
County/Syracuse/Lake Wawassee area. That is a rather
geographically isolated part of the county which has
deteriorated into a zone of poverty, crime, delinquency,
academic failure, unemployment, alcohol/drug abuse,
neighborhood deterioration and hopelessness. The Bowen
Center, is a private not-for-profit community mental
health center. Though we are not usually in the business
of community organization, the mental health condition
of the children and adults in Fascination Place (the
trailer park section of Enchanted Hills) is so affected
by the environment in which they live, that we feel a
sense of responsibility to try to make a difference.
