Vicki Keller joined the Ball State School of Nursing faculty in August of 2002 as an assistant professor. Her focus area in the baccalaureate program is pediatric nursing.
Vicki's teaching experience prior to coming to Ball State includes two years as a visiting lecturer at the I.U. School of Nursing at IUPUI and two and a half years as a clinical instructor at the University of Indianapolis. A major portion of Vicki's clinical experience has been in newborn intensive care. Additional work experience has been in pediatric home care, same day surgery (with adult and pediatric clients), oncology, IV therapy, adult medical-surgical, and resource team.
Vicki's research interest is in pediatric symptom management. She feels strongly that children have the right to have their symptoms managed effectively regardless of their inability to serve as their own advocates, and that symptoms such as pain and nausea can have a detrimental effect on the child's physical and psychological well-being if not managed effectively. The specific focus of Vicki's research is improving symptom assessment strategies for preverbal and early verbal children.
