Profile

Nagia Ali has been with the School of Nursing at Ball State University since 1987. She has served as an assessment co-coordinator for the systematic evaluation of the School of Nursing programs up to the end of fall 03. She has been teaching graduate and undergraduate courses totally on-line for more than six years. She has adapted classroom courses to the on-line format as well as developed a new on-line course, NUR 607 Data Analysis in Nursing, as a core for graduate students in all academic tracks. She has also helped other faculty redesign traditional courses to on-line courses and developed new Internet courses for the graduate program.

Dr. Ali co-developed a five-point Likert scale instrument to evaluate Web classes that is currently used in the School of Nursing. Further, she worked with other colleagues to develop "Community of Communities," an electronic course, where students from different classes access the on-line community and discuss cultural issues and cultural case studies. She also co-developed an on-line instrument to measure the effectiveness of "Community of Communities."

Dr. Ali co-authored grants that address the changing faculty role in on-line teaching, and these were funded by the National League of Nursing. She has participated with other faculty in the School of Nursing and in the College of Applied Science and Technology in obtaining funds for connecting research with on-line teaching and for evaluating our master's program.

Dr. Ali is a reviewer of manuscripts for three professional journals. On 2003, she has reviewed the 2nd edition of Kemp’s Terminal Illness: A guide to Nursing Care. She has also reviewed the 7th edition of Greeberg's Comprehensive Stress Management textbook, 2002. She has served on local, national, and international nursing organizations. She has conducted presentations to community groups in the area of breast cancer screening and health promoting behaviors.

Dr. Ali has participated as a member of the International Scientific Review Committee of the ISEF. She has also been serving as a judge in the Annual East Central Indiana Regional Science Fair. Dr. Ali has done consultation to Excelsior College regarding nursing research, 2003.
