School of Nursing, Ball State University
R.N. to B.S. Course of Study Overview
Because the R.N. to B.S. track provides a great deal of flexibility and the specific courses you take will be affected by the transfer credits you bring, an advisor will work with you on an individual basis to develop a plan of study. Your advisor will help you determine the prerequisites you need, review your options for progressing through the nursing sequence, and assist you in mapping out a plan to complete University Core Curriculum requirements.

The Ball State B.S. in nursing degree requires a minimum of 126 credit hours, and 30 of the last 40 of those credit hours must be completed through Ball State. The track includes six semester, on-line nursing courses. These may be taken one or two per semester in a specified sequence. Four of the six nursing courses have a clinical component that you arrange in your community subject to approval of the faculty member teaching the course.

Certain prerequisites are available as on-line courses, while others are available through Ball State’s Independent Learning Program (courses designed and taught by Ball State professors). All University Core Curriculum courses are offered as Independent Learning courses. You may register for Independent Learning Program courses at any time and work at your own pace to complete them over a period of up to nine months.
