Kay Hodson-Carlton explains her project to Bizhan Nasseh at the Faculty Technology Showcase.
The third annual Ball State Faculty Technology Showcase was held Feb. 23 in Bracken Library. The event allowed faculty to share their use of technology in teaching and research with the campus community through interactive exhibits. "Because they work to develop these applications, we want to give faculty members a chance to demonstrate their use of technology in a public forum," Yasemin Tunc, director for technology training support services, said of the annual event.
Those attending had the chance to discuss the projects with the presenters as well as see demonstrations of the kinds of technology available on campus.
"When faculty come to the showcase, they can see how someone else has taken the available technology and used it in one situation. The hope is that from there they will find ways to adapt it to address their own needs," Tunc said.
Presentations at the showcase included:
- Jeff Culp, operations manager in the Center for Energy Research/Education/Service (CERES) — "(My) Memory Management Using Microsoft OneNote and a Tablet PC."
- John Dailey, assistant professor of multimedia in the Department of Telecommunications — "Blogcasting 101."
- James Flowers, professor and director of online education in the Department of Technology — "A Learning Objects Frame of Mind."
- Taiping Ho, professor in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology; Kay Hodson-Carlton, professor in the School of Nursing; Maria Williams-Hawkins, associate professor in the Department of Telecommunications — "Community-Campus Partnerships Promote Multidiscplinary Education Through Innovative Technology."
- Webster Newbold, associate professor in the Department of English — "Reading and Writing with Digital Media."
- Rich Swingley, digital audio instructor in the Department of Telecommunications — "Using Blackboard As a Communications Portal for Convergence Projects."
