SUB-COMMITTEE REGISTRATION

To facilitate oversight of the project process and to engage additional community and professional representatives, five sub-committees are forming to provide input into the project process.  Sub-committee membership is open to UDOC members as well as the general public, and an individual may volunteer for as many sub-committees as they desire.

These sub-committees follow each "category" of work activity as outlined in the process work program

Sub-Committee Selection
Education
This committee will direct the four speaker workshops and will coordinate educational opportunities with other organizations such as AIA, ASLA, IPA, BAGI and MIBOR. This coordination should also include conferences, training sessions and other meetings that might be appropriate for helping both the Urban Design Advisory Council and the General Public understand Urban Design in a more in-depth manner. This committee will be in charge of maintaining a schedule of these functions and for the promotion of these efforts.
Policies and Procedure
This committee will work with the Department of Metropolitan Development to review and analyze the policies, plans and procedures of the Regional Center. A tremendous resource for this effort will be the previously completed study on Urban Design Review activities in other communities. The committee will work with the project team to identify successful policies or recommend new or amended changes to the current policy and procedure framework of the City of Indianapolis.
Critical Urban Design Areas
This committee will oversee the study of the four critical districts identified for this study. Members will assist the project team in determining objectives, issues, logistics, participants and other related items to insure success of each charrette workshop. Members of this committee will also assist in synthesizing the information gleaned from these workshops to be molded into urban design guidelines.
Critical Connectors
This committee will oversee the study of the various critical connectors that exist in the Regional Center. These include: Interstates 65 and 70, The White River, Railroad and possible Transit Corridors and Greenways/Trails/Rights of Way. This committee will assist the project team in determining objectives, issues, logistics, participants and other related items to insure success in the study of this issue. Members of this committee will also work with the other committees to ensure that there is dialogue between districts over and through these critical connectors.
Stable and/or Historic Urban Design Areas
This committee will oversee the study of the Regional Center’s stable and/or historic districts. The committee will provide assistance to the project team by identifying qualities of these districts that are both positive and negative. Following this analysis, the committee will assist in determining what qualities to protect and which need improvement. The committee then will represent these thoughts in the creation of the urban design guidelines.
