CAP:IC Community Projects Back

An integral part of the CAP:IC mission is to provide community outreach and service activities to neighborhoods and other organizations.  Click on a project for more information.
  • Speedway Speedzone Workshop
    CAP:IC facilitated a visioning workshop to develop three alternative visions for a redevelopment area immediately south of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
     

  • Historic Meridian Park Neighborhood Workshop
    Working with the Historic Meridian Park Neighborhood Association, CAP:IC will sponsor a community design workshop February 9-11, 2006 in the Meridian Park neighborhood.
     

  • Alice Carter Place Park Design
    CAP:IC and the Department of Landscape Architecture worked with a neighborhood organization to develop design alternatives for a neighborhood park.
     

  • Urban Design Indianapolis
    CAP:IC is managing community education opportunities, facilitating urban design workshops, and providing logistical support for this public process to develop urban design guidelines for Downtown Indianapolis as called for by the Regional Center Plan 2020.
     

  • Indianapolis Gateways Study
    CAP:IC developed presentation "storyboards" to effectively communicate and solicit input from the public for fifteen potential gateway sites as identified by the Mayor's Gateways Task Force.
     

  • Great Indy Neighborhoods
    CAP:IC is providing a communication tool to further engage the community in discussions about the future of community development efforts in Indianapolis as part of the Mayor's Community Development Summit.
     

  • Herron Reuse Study
    CAP:IC is assisting a reuse advisory workgroup with academic projects and outreach and communication activities to solicit input regarding potential reuse scenarios for the Herron School of Art complex.
     

  • Irvington Neighborhood Plan
    CAP:IC provided research and communication support in addition to operating a neighborhood information office in this historic neighborhood undergoing a city-sponsored planning process.  The neighborhood is one of two pilot neighborhoods going through a revamped planning process developed with CAP:IC input.
     

  • UNWA Neighborhood Plan and Workshop
    CAP:IC provided communication support in addition to facilitating a three-day community workshop in this neighborhood undergoing a city-sponsored planning process.  The neighborhood is one of two pilot neighborhoods going through a revamped planning process developed with CAP:IC input.
     

  • Central State Reuse Study
    CAP:IC served as a "thinktank" for the Central State Reuse Advisory Commission and helped the community reach consensus about a reuse plan for the former Central State Hospital property on Indianapolis' near west side.  Activities included a three-day community workshop, communication support, neighborhood meetings and technical assistance.
     

  • 16th Street Urban Design Workshop
    CAP:IC facilitated a community workshop July 10-12, 2003 that examined redevelopment ideas for 16th Street near Downtown Indianapolis.
     

  • TenEast Main Street Urban Design Workshop
    CAP:IC facilitated a community workshop March 21-22, 2003 that examined redevelopment ideas for the 10th Street corridor east of Downtown Indianapolis. 
     

  • Mayor's Abandoned Homes Initiative
    A CAP:IC graduate fellow served as the primary researcher and worked with six student employees to identify over 8,000 vacant or abandoned homes in Indianapolis.  The inventory team used handheld geographic information systems to document the homes and their conditions.
     

  • Indianapolis Cultural Districts Program
    CAP:IC worked with six cultural district committees to develop easy-to-understand, concise plan summaries to communicate the cultural district plans to other stakeholders and potential partners.
     

  • Indianapolis Cultural Tourism Initiative
    CAP:IC provided communication services for the Cultural Tourism Initiative to repurpose an existing website from consumer-based to stakeholder-based with the intent of further engaging the Indianapolis community in discussions relating to cultural development.
     

  • Indianapolis Regional Center Plan 2020
    CAP:IC provided extensive facilitation, publication and managerial support for the Regional Center Plan.  Activities include, but are not limited to:

    • Managing storefront office including public displays and general facility remodeling and maintenance.
    • Public assistance and interaction.
    • Conducting three, five-day urban design workshops.
    • Assisting in the development of a two-year planning process including committee structure and membership, public forums and events and a youth workshop.
    • Developing an extensive and comprehensive website.
    • Managing committee membership database and communications.
    • Graphic design support including logo development, merchandise development and publication development.
