Committee Description

Irvington has always been a safe community. Parts of the neighborhood are patrolled the Indianapolis Police Department-East District, the Indianapolis Police Department-South District, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department. Fire Station #25 is located on South Sheridan Avenue.

The commercial portion of Irvington is located on Washington Street, the National Road. Washington Street not only serves the Irvington community, but it is an important route to and from downtown Indianpolis. Nearly 25,000 cars use this street every day.

Possible Topics:

  • How can traffic on Washington Street be dealt with so that the street maintains its important role as a transportation link and yet is not such a barrier to pedestrian traffic in the heart of the community?

  • What steps need to be taken to ensure that Irvington remains a safe community?

  • What can be done to maintain good housing conditions in the neighborhood?
