CAP:IC Graduate Fellowship Program for Employers Back

The primary benefit to employers of the CAP:IC Graduate Fellowship program is the ability to affordably employ a design or planning professional that has already completed their undergraduate degree. Fellows can work either at the employer location or at CAP:IC, allowing employers who lack space or resources such as computer equipment the ability to employ a fellow.

Employers also enjoy the rewards of mentoring and guiding a student as they prepare for their professional careers.

Graduate Fellows will have already completed their bachelor degree and be versed in design and planning theory, research techniques, communication and graphic development, and have experience with quantitative methods and many computer applications.  Fellows will also have completed an internship as required by their undergraduate degree and many will have been involved in various community outreach and service projects as an undergraduate student.

Costs
Note: Costs for 2009-10 Are Under Revision

As a Graduate Fellow, Ball State University contributes full-time student tuition.  Employers contribute $15,000 per fellow for a 15 month fellowship.  This cost provides the student a stipend to help cover living and personal expenses.  Students are typically employed as fellows from May of Year 1 through July of Year 2, a period of 15 months.  Students work full-time (40 hours per week) during the first summer (May through August of Year 1) and half-time (20 hours per week) for the remainder of the fellowship during which time they will also be enrolled in classes.  Ball State University manages all logistical payroll issues.

Work Schedule
While the Fellowship program provides exciting benefits to employers, the nature of student employment requires some flexibility.  Fellowships follow an academic schedule, which includes scheduled breaks including a break in the fall, during the holidays, and spring break.  As students, many may also have class commitments and be expected to participate in professional development conferences.  However, with the exception of scheduled University breaks, students are expected to work 20 hours per week.  Just be prepared to be flexible with the work schedule at times!
