Programs

The Cultural Development Commission supports the following programs through partnerships with key community organizations. Each program meets the goals of the Commission and elevates Indianapolis as a cultural destination and dynamic place to live.

Fast Track Funding

Managed by the Arts Council of Indianapolis

The Fast Track Funding Program gives a financial boost to organizations that develop and market local cultural and artistic events and activities that support cultural tourism for the city. Grant applications are accepted throughout the year or until the program has allocated all available funding. Fast Track Grants may be up to $10,000 each and fund expenses related to cultural tourism activities, programs and projects that enhance or expand a program.

The 2008 Fast Track Funding Program has concluded. Thank you to all who have been a part of this year’s program.

The 2009 Fast Track Funding Program will begin in January 2009, and the submission deadlines are the last Friday of each month. The 2009 Application will be available in the coming weeks. Check back soon!

Public Art Indianapolis

Managed by the Arts Council of Indianapolis

By bringing art outside the traditional context of museums and galleries, Public Art Indianapolis benefits the community and its visitors by increasing access to art, extending our cultural institutions’ reach beyond their campuses, and providing artists with opportunities to expand their artistic practice and market.

The program has a commitment to work with both emerging and established artists, galleries, and museums to produce high quality, innovative, and creative art projects and exhibitions in public spaces in Indianapolis. Projects include the Public Art Locator, Picture Windows, Great Ideas Competition, and major outdoor exhibitions.

Be Indypendent

Managed by the Arts Council of Indianapolis

Launched on Independence Day 2007, the Be Indypendent movement supports all things unique to Indianapolis. The movement began with a campaign to “buy local art” and increase awareness of Indy’s visual artists but has since broadened to include independent businesses.

Be Indypendent provides tools and resources to individuals and businesses on how to buy local art and partners with design professionals encouraging them to incorporate local art into their projects. From restaurants and galleries to boutiques and farmers markets, Be Indypendent encourages Indy’s residents and visitors to buy local!

Cultural Districts Program

Managed by Indianapolis Downtown, Inc.

Arts and cultural offerings, as well as local restaurants and retail shops that are unique to Indy are thriving in neighborhoods throughout the city. To fully leverage these existing assets and help encourage new growth, the Cultural District Program was created to support six areas: Broad Ripple Village, Fountain Square, Indiana Avenue, Mass Ave, The Canal and White River State Park, and the Wholesale District. The program has focused on areas including marketing, way-finding, and real estate development.
