PROVENANCE:

Most items in the collection were received from practitioner offices along with drawings and other office records.  Other materials came from Lenny C. Lepola, Charles Sappenfield, Michele Chiuini, Carmen Costello, Evelyn Hermansen, Andrew Seager, George Young, Ball State University Facilities Management, and Ball State University Architecture Library.

Scope and Content

This collection contains books, pamphlets, and other printed material used for the education of practitioners or by practitioners in the conduct of their business.  Among the holdings are:

Manuals of drawing; blueprint reading; architecture, carpentry, and building; structural design; engineering; building construction and superintendence; specification writing; cost estimating; stone masonry; surveying; and painting

Technical manuals for plywood, concrete masonry, stone masonry, wiring, steam heating, and hot water heating

Indiana Society of Architects Handbook, vols. 1-2, 4-7 (1919-1926)

Instruction booklets for a course in architecture from the International Correspondence Schools of Scranton, Pa. (ca. 1907-1921)

Instruction booklets for a course in commercial design from the Federal School of Commercial Designing, Minneapolis (1920)

Structural steel handbooks published by Cambria Steel, Carnegie Steel Co., Jones & Laughlin Steel Co., and U. S. Steel Co. (1903-1936)

Time-Saver Standards (1946) and Architectural Graphic Standards (1948, 1954)

Published sets of architectural details from several sources including Architecture magazine, the Architectural Service Corporation, and Pencil Points (1903-1926)

Building codes and housing design manuals
