  • Discuss your background and get to know each other
  • Discuss your goals for the relationship
  • Discuss the student's career goals and interests
  • Discuss what each of you want to learn in the relationship
  • Discuss the mentor's educational background and the role of educational preparation in the discipline of architecture, landscape architecture and planning
  • Go out to breakfast, lunch, dinner, or coffee
  • Attend CAP Lectures together
  • Attend AIA, ASLA, or APA events and lunches together
  • Attend Student Chapter or student-sponsored activities or events together
  • Attend exhibits of interest at BSU, CAP, CAPIC, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Massachusetts Avenue, Broad Ripple, Stutz Building, or any museum or gallery
  • Attend concerts or sporting events together
  • Give the student a tour of your firm or workplace
  • Give the student a tour of a construction site or a recently completed project
  • Plan a job shadow day
  • Invite the student to a meeting with a client or contractors
  • Introduce the student to other professionals within the discipline
  • Introduce the student to an individual in your firm or workplace who has similar interests
  • Compile a list of contacts that the student could meet related to their interests
  • Invite your mentor to one of your presentations or studio reviews
  • Critique a school project that the student is involved with
  • Critique the students portfolio, resume, and/or cover letter
  • Practice a job interview
  • Discuss how your individual work values have impacted your career choices
  • Discuss current issues or events relating to the discipline of architecture
  • Discuss the professional standards that exist within each of the disciplines
  • Discuss the transition from school to work
  • Discuss the Intern Development Program, Professional licensure and the Registration Exam
  • Discuss the future of the profession(s) and practice
  • Discuss how new technologies affect design and practice
  • Discuss how the mentor's personal and professional lives fit together
  • Show each other shortcuts on the computer
