2005 is the 40th Anniversary of the College of Architecture and Planning! Throuhgout the year CAP will be celebrating this landmark. In addition, we hope to learn how our programs have rapidly grown to prominence, specifically, (a) what alumni have been able to do professionally since they left CAP and (b) what role a CAP education has played in your ability to do it. The celebration will last the entire calendar year and will have several elements:
Guest Lecture Series
We are dedicating the entire 2005 guest lecture series our alumni, friends, and former faculty at CAP. If you have an interest in participating let me know. We are asking that you address the topics above. We hope to host receptions at each lecture. We will video tape each talk and edit into one DVD highlights at the end of the year (December 2005). We also plan to integrate Job Fairs and other activities that involve our alumni as a part of the lecture series.
The CAP Exhibition Series
We are dedicating the entire 2005 exhibition series to alumni, faculty and former faculty at CAP. We are asking alumni to submit PowerPoint slides of their work (see Pat Quinn for specific details on the exact specifications). The Alumni Board of Directors hope to have alumni, faculty, former faculty, and archival exhibits. In some cases, they will have excellent course fit and hopefully classes will be able to hear gallery talks by exhibitors. An Alumni Board of Directors task force decided on preferred exhibit board formats. We will exhibit all work submitted. More information and submission specifications are available here.
Special Events
During 2005, we will host a number of special events at CAP, CAPIC, and in cities where we either have large groups of alumni or in which there are major national or regional meetings that our alumni will attend. At Ball State, we will host major events on Wednesday, March 23, 2005—the date founding Dean Sappenfield says the Governor signed the CAP into existence and Friday, September 30, 2005, the day of our annual Alumni Banquet (moved strategically to a Friday to promote more interaction between students and former students).
CAP Alumni 40th Anniversary Monograph
We are producing a yearbook/monograph of the collected input from alumni, faculty and former faculty at CAP. We are asking all alumni to submit PowerPoint slides of their work. Pat Quinn is digging through storage areas and inventorying alumni related materials. Daniel Hartwig, the new Archivist, is doing similarly in our Archives. We hope that all alumni will forward samples of their work. The exhibitions boards and the monograph will be integrally linked. In addition, the BSU Alumnus magazine will run a 40th Anniversary article in the January issue.
40th Anniversary Banner and memorabilia
pending BSU approval, a 10'x60'large banner will hang on the south wall of the CAP building and related memorabilia will be shared with alumni, students, friends, guests.
Below is a list of members of the Alumni Board of Directors already working on the events for the celebration. They welcome you to join in helping to organize the events.
