Summer Workshop: Format & Schedule
Instruction takes place in the College of Architecture and Planning design studios in a format similar to CAP's First-Year Program. Faculty members provide all equipment and instructional materials needed.

Participants are involved in studio work for approximately six hours each day. Some night and evening periods are free of programmed activities to allow students the opportunity to experience college life.

In addition to studio experiences, students participate in a field trip study tour that includes bus travel to a major metropolitan city. Field study is an integral part of learning at CAP. Workshop participants are asked to analyze and document cultural aspects of design and planning.

Workshop Schedule
Students should plan to arrive and settle into their residence hall rooms between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on the first Sunday of the workshop. Students and faculty instructors will be able to informally meet for dinner later that evening.

The workshop class sessions begin at 8 a.m. on Monday. All participants are expected to meet each day as directed by their instructors. Important components of this academic workshop are held during the weekend. The workshop ends at noon on the final Friday of the workshop.

For security and logistical concerns, students are not permitted to leave the campus during the entire period of the workshop.

Living Arrangements
All Ball State summer workshop students are housed in the same university residence hall supervised by trained staff members. Students live in double-occupancy rooms and may have the opportunity to choose roommates.

Campus Entertainment
In addition to the recreational facilities in the residence halls and the university's gyms and pool, students may attend a variety of campus activities, including movies, plays, and lectures. Organized weekend recreation and entertainment activities also are planned in conjunction with the workshop.

About CAP
The College of Architecture and Planning is home to four independent professional disciplines (architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, and historic preservation). All four of these disciplines prescribe to one basic domain: the study of the art and science of environmental design and planning. As integral methodology of the study of environmental design and planning, creativity, process, and skills are addressed during specially designed project based instructional units.

Campus Location
Ball State University is located in the heart of Muncie, Indiana, a mid-sized and quintessentially Midwestern city with impressive cultural and entertainment resources. Muncie is one hour northeast of Indianapolis, so it's not far away from a major metropolitan area.
