Additional Information
Dr. Jeffery Gore, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission 'Genes and Corridors: the conservation of endangered mammals in Florida' Populations of many wildlife species in Florida have been reduced or isolated due to the loss and fragmentation of their habitat. In this presentation, Dr. Gore will use examples of Florida mammals, particularly the Florida panther, to illustrate how extinction risks for small populations are exacerbated by loss of genetic exchange and diversity. He will discuss how wildlife translocations and genetic introgression are being used, along with protection of habitat corridors, to restore and maintain viable populations of endangered mammals in Florida.
