Federated was formed in 1904 by a group of business people who were seeking better value for their insurance premium dollar. Since then, the company has grown to employ over 2,600 people and operates in 48 states and Washington, DC, and is now one of the nation’s leading commercial insurance providers to clients in selected industries including trade and industry associations, auto service centers, farm and construction equipment dealers, wholesale operations, and petroleum transport, among others. It has been rated among the top performing insurance companies by independent rating agencies. For more information, visit: About the speaker: Jeffrey E. Fetters is chairman, president, and chief executive officer of the Federated Insurance Companies. He started his career in the company in 1980 as a marketing representative in Valparaiso, Indiana. He rose through the ranks as a highly successful marketer to become director of field operations. In 2001, he was appointed executive vice president of insurance operations and moved to the company’s head office in Owatonna, Minnesota. His responsibilities steadily expanded during the next decade as he earned the roles of chief operating officer in 2004, president in 2008, chief executive officer in 2009, a director of the companies also in 2009, and most recently, in 2012, the title of chairman. Over a career spanning more than three decades, Fetters has been a steadfast champion of value marketing and performance management. On his appointment as chairman, he said, “I take great pride in the Federated organization. We have the finest distribution system and employees in the industry. We are fortunate to work at Federated at a time of great financial stability and opportunity. I look forward to the coming years and the great things we will achieve together.” Fetters obtained his undergraduate degree in accounting from Ball State University.
