What do a pharmaceutical laboratory, a hospital emergency room, a state fish hatchery, and a junior high classroom all have in common? They are all likely places to find Ball State biology graduates.

The Ball State Department of Biology is one of the largest departments in the College of Sciences and Humanities. With a wide variety of bachelor’s degree options, a comprehensive pre-health program, a teaching licensure program, master’s degrees, and doctoral degrees all under one roof, it is no surprise that you can find more than 600 majors enrolled in the department at any given time.

As a biology student, you will have the advantage of working closely with your professors in and out of the classroom. Small class and lab sizes allow more individual attention while field studies and collaborative research projects give you the opportunity to work side-by-side with your professors. The Biotechnology Certificate Program prepares you with in-demand research and laboratory skills for graduate school or to help you become successful in your career as a research associate.

With the Field Station and Environmental Education Center (FSEEC) the benefits are two-fold. In addition to providing hands-on learning observation of nature and exploration of natural processes, our research activities are directed toward understanding human impact on ecological processes and communities. The Aquatic Biology and Fisheries Center has helped to improve the fish population in the Wabash River and Lake Michigan.
