Botany is the study of plants and traditionally also the study of fungi and algae. Plants are the primary energy source for virtually all organisms within the biosphere, so a greater understanding of botany is necessary as we encounter environmental degradation, loss of biological diversity, and a need for increased food production. You will take required botany courses that will provide you with a strong overall understanding of the field of botany, with an emphasis on vascular plants.

You are encouraged to gain practical experience through participation in faculty-directed research, internships, and career-related summer employment.
