Center for Media Design
The Center for Media Design (CMD) at Ball State University is a research and development facility focused on applied research and practical application of digital technologies for business, classroom, home, and community.

Funding from Lilly Endowment Inc. in 2001 and again in 2005 has enabled CMD to carry out its mission to enhance innovative, immersive, educational experiences for students in digital technology and to fund collaborative initiatives that speak to the marketplace.

The following pages feature three strikingly successful initiatives of CMD: the Institute for Digital Fabrication and Rapid Prototyping, which melds architecture, engineering, and construction to expedite computer-generated designs into finished products on almost any scale; the Digital Home and Healthcare research facility, equipped for exploring the use and impact of new media and technologies in an everyday setting; and the groundbreaking Middletown Media Studies, employing observational techniques to track the daily media usage of Americans.
