the Volcano

From the functional to the fanciful, the American Studio Ceramics exhibition features works from a number of celebrated twentieth century artists. Several artists with a Ball State connection are represented in the exhibition. Among those artists are Linda Arndt, a former Ball State professor of art, Alan Patrick, a Ball State alumnus whose work can be found in many museums and private collections, and Ted Neal, assistant professor of art at Ball State. Other artists represented in the exhibition include Byron Temple, Wayne Higby and Maija Grotell. Opening May 16.

Toshiko Takaezu: Inside the Volcano features work by the major American ceramic artist from the early 1970s to 2006. Takaezu was pioneering in the ceramic medium, taking it from craft to fine art, and her work can be found in numerous collections around the world. Included in the exhibition are the museum's original purchase of Takeazu's work from 1972 and a major gift of 18 works by the artist from 2006. Opening May 16.

The summer exhibition in the Brown Study Room, Dennis Oppenheim: Drawings, features nine works on paper by the conceptual artist. Oppenheim is known mostly as a sculptor, but often uses drawings as the starting points for large scale works. Several of the drawings included in the exhibition have inscriptions by the artist referring to the creation process. Opening May 23.
