AED 200 - Understanding Art.
Introduction to art history, art criticism, aesthetics, and studio art processes of drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Lecture and studio experiences integrate art criticism, aesthetics, and art history with hands-on studio art projects. Not open to art majors.
AED 201 - Introduction to Art Education.
Introduction to art education as a teaching profession. Emphasizes investigating artistic growth of normal and special populations and the materials, techniques, tools, art concepts, and strategies appropriate for teaching art to such students. Prerequisite: ADS 102; AFA 202. Open only to art majors.
AED 304 - Art Curriculum and Instruction.
Designed to develop the art students' abilities to make art-curricular judgments by developing art-curriculum plans and designing art experiences. Prerequisite: C or better grade in AED 201; admission to the teacher education program. Open only to art majors.
AED 305 - Art Teaching and Learning Practicum.
Direct experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating teaching strategies. Includes observation of students participating in art- related environment. Laboratory teaching time is arranged. Prerequisite: C grade or better in AED 304. Open only to art majors.
AED 399 - Classroom Use of Methods and Materials: Art.
A study of methods, materials, curricula, and issues relating to high school and middle school level visual arts education. Prerequisite: C or better grade in AED 305. Open only to art majors.
AED 415 - Independent Study in Art Education.
Permits professionally oriented art students to select and more intensively explore an area of art education. Prerequisite: sponsorship of an art faculty member; permission of the department chairperson. A total of 6 hours of credit may be earned, but no more than 3 in any one semester or term. Open only to students with areas in art.
AED 498 - Seminar in Art Education.
Topical seminar with emphasis on critical thinking and discourse as practices of the professional artist and art educator, including both group and individual investigation and experiences. Prerequisite: ADS 102; AFA 202; AHS 102. A total of 9 hours of credit may be earned. Open only to art majors.
AED 604 - Curriculum Methods in Art Education.
Developing concepts for implementation, evaluation, and change of the art education curriculum. Teaching innovations, functional methods, and criteria for theory, content, practice, and program development in public schools.
AED 608 - Workshop in the Visual Arts.
For classroom teachers: exploration of current concepts in basic arts education in a workshop setting. Explores contemporary techniques and theory in arts teaching, emphasizing the elementary school. A total of 6 hours of credit may be earned.
AED 655 - Teaching Art Awareness in Public Schools.
An analysis of current thinking, approaches, and methodologies to foster art appreciation in elementary and secondary schools, emphasizing instructional strategies.
