Carol A. Hrvol Flores, Ph.D., is an architecture historian, specializing in the history, theory, and criticism of British and American architecture in the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries.  Her publications include award-winning articles on the use of inscriptions in architecture and on American public housing.  Her research has also focused on the theory and designs of the British architect, Owen Jones (1809-1874), author of The Grammar of Ornament (1856) and Superintendent of Works for the Great Exhibition of 1851, Hyde Park, London.  Dr. Flores’s book Owen Jones: Design, Ornament, Architecture and Theory (Rizzoli International, 2006, [0-8478-2804-2) received the Henry-Russell Hitchcock Book Award for 2007 by the Victorian Society in America.

Dr. Flores is the recipient of Ball State University’s Outstanding Faculty Award for 2006-2007.
