The Department of Architecture invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair. The department and the university seek an individual who possesses keen insights into the present state of architecture, architectural education, and the related fields of environmental design and historic preservation, and who can represent and clearly articulate positive future directions of a diverse faculty. The position is available July 1, 2008. Minimum qualifications: professional degree in architecture; master's degree in architecture and/or credentials that merit appointment at the rank of full professor. Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. or doctorate and/or professional registration; working knowledge of the profession and distinguished accomplishments in one or more of the following areas: practice, research, scholarship, or teaching; previous successful administrative experience; proven ability to build trust and integrate different educational interests that support multiple options for both the undergraduate major in architecture, and the professional, post-professional, and historic preservation degrees at the graduate level.
The Department of Architecture currently offers two undergraduate and three graduate degree programs: a Bachelor of Science in environmental design; a Bachelor of Science or Arts in architecture (85 hours); a professional NAAB accredited Master of Architecture; a post-professional Master of Architecture; and a Master of Science in Historic Preservation. The professional degree requires an internship as part of its emphasis on the reflective practitioner; offers concentration areas in sustainability, fabrication, landscape architecture, and social and professional practice, and has dual-degree options in planning and preservation. Students with no undergraduate education in architecture complete the degree in three and a half years. All students participate in field-study programs here and abroad.
