1. You must first meet the requirements of and apply to the Graduate School. You may apply to the Graduate School online.

If you are an international student, contact the Office of International Programs.

2. In order to meet the requirements of the Department of Anthropology, you must have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale and submit the following to the department:

a. Graduate Program Application (PDF);

b. One official transcript from each institution attended, sent directly from the institution of study;

c. Narrative statement explaining reasons for wanting to pursue graduate study in anthropology at Ball State and the relationship of such study to long-term goals (300–500 words, double-spaced, typed);

d. Vita (resume), including educational background, employment history, experience in anthropology and/or archaeology, research endeavors, volunteer efforts, professional organization memberships, honors/awards, etc;

e. Three (3) Recommendation Forms (PDF) from individuals with knowledge of your academic, or relevant nonacademic, abilities and accomplishments;

If your undergraduate major was not in anthropology or in a closely-related field, then you may be required to complete undergraduate courses to acquire background knowledge. If you want to focus on archaeology, we suggest that you participate in a summer field school or have equivalent experience before beginning studies.
