Every year, faculty members organize a variety of field study opportunities that allow anthropology students to apply what they have learned in the classroom to the real world. Faculty members conduct field schools in Indiana, the southwestern United States, Ireland, and other locations across the globe.
The Southwest The southwest field trip begins with an introduction to some of the challenges affecting the American Indian cultures of Arizona and New Mexico. We visit the Navajo, Hopi, and various Rio Grande Pueblo groups. Through discussion sessions with Indians from all walks of life, we learn more about attitudes and current issues, such as education, employment, energy development, health, religion, lifestyle aspirations, and the arts. We also take time to visit prehistoric ruins and museums.
