Innovation in teaching and learning is a tradition at Ball State University.

Thinking big, taking creative risks, making connections, and collaborating are part of our culture. Today, more than ever, that culture is transforming the educational experience—making us a different kind of university.

Our vision of academic excellence is achieved through an intellectually energetic environment that challenges, yet supports bright, curious students. Professors—who are experts in their fields—invite students to explore, experiment, and exchange ideas and to immerse themselves in relevant, creative learning experiences.

Because we understand that the citizens of the 21st century need competencies not easily developed in a traditional bricks-and-mortar-and-chalkboard classroom, our immersive experiences extend learning beyond the classroom, blurring the boundaries between disciplines and engaging leading-edge technology. By bridging content knowledge, skill of application, and societal need, immersive learning allows students to participate in intense collaborative projects that shape them for success and inspire them to share that success.

This report highlights some of the ways Ball State is redefining education—and earning national recognition—as we continue to move forward, building on our tradition of innovation. I invite you to read and see for yourself what makes Ball State a different kind of university.
