Alumni Spotlight - Otis Alexander, '83 (10/3/2005)
Otis Alexander

Otis Alexander is a 1983 graduate of Ball State University with a master's degree in library science and music.  Otis is currently the library director at Southeastern University in Washington, DC.

Before entering library management at Southeastern, Otis was an art teacher with the Marriott Hospitality High School in Washington, DC.  He also directed and was principal choreographer for Street Theatre Dance Ensemble in St. Croix, Virgin Islands for 16 years.  The dance ensemble traveled and performed throughout the Caribbean and was featured at CARIFESTA in Trinidad, Brooklyn Academy of Music.  Otis also taught high school music and conducted the Mixed Concert Choir, Jazz Choir and Chamber Ensemble, and Dance Team in St. Croix for 11 years.  His students prepared to compete at an international level and also performed at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk, Virginia.

Otis spent much of his time at Ball State in the School of Music, but enjoyed social life as well as student conferences and meeting different personalities.  He says that Ball State University is academically rigorous, challenging, and nurturing.  Otis states that, "My degree from Ball State has been a key to the door for my intellectual and economic success.  I have been able to compete for positions at a global level.  It has afforded me the opportunity to communicate effectively in all sorts of circles because of the diverse settings that the University offered."
