Alumni Spotlight (8/1/2005)
Barbara McGranahan
Barbara McGranahan
Barbara (Bowsher) McGranahan graduated from Ball State University in 1969 with a B.S. in Secondary Education and a minor in Music Performance.  She also graduated in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in Nursing.  Barb taught grade school, high school, and college as a graduate assistant.  While she was completing her nursing degree she worked in the ortho/neuro department of Ball Memorial Hospital.  Upon graduation Barb became an administrator of a natural home healthcare corporation's local agency in Muncie.  Promotions within that corporation in the area of quality assurance/improvement and regulatory compliance enabled her to travel and live across the U.S.

Barb's husband, Ronald, is a 1985 graduate of Ball State University with a B.S. in Secondary Music Education and also holds a Master's Degree in Human Resource Management and Development from Chapman University in California.  While at Ball State he was a member of the Dean's Honor List and Golden Key National Scholastic Honor Society.  Ron was also the Instrumental Director for the University Singers and the drill designer for the marching band.  After graduating in 1985 he became a high school band director.  Ron has appeared as a guest musical artist at the internationally acclaimed Monterey Jazz Festival, the Santa Cruz Jazz Festival, and the Pacific Coast Jazz Festival.

In 2003 Barb and Ron became full time innkeepers of the Freeport Clipper Inn Bed and Breakfast located in Mid-Coast Maine.  Their inn is just 2 blocks from a mecca of retail shopping in the quaint New England town of Freeport.  Barb also completed culinary business training in order to become a personal chef and a premier member of the United States Personal Chef Association.  Her culinary business is Everyday Gourmet, "Your What's For Dinner? Solution."  She also recently acquired her certification as a Health Fitness Instructor SM from the American College of Sports Medicine at the Cooper Institute, Dallas, Texas.

During her time at Ball State, Barb was involved in Delta Zeta Social Sorority, marching and concert band, and orchestra.  Barb says that she doesn't get back to campus as often as she would like, but was able to attend an alumni gathering in San Francisco when she was there.  When asked about her feelings toward Ball State, Barb says it provided her "a great foundation for life" and that she is "very proud to always hear great things about BSU grads."
