Nursing Alumni Society Board of Directors Meeting

President Mary Buckley called the meeting to order at 5:07 p.m. and asked for any corrections or additions to the minutes of the October 24, 2006 Nursing Alumni board of directors meeting. Kathy Hutson made a motion to approve the minutes as presented. Jan Noel seconded the motion and the minutes were approved by voice vote.
Old Business
Fall 2006 Nursing Pinning Ceremony, Saturday, December 16, 7:00 p.m., Emens Auditorium—All arrangements have been taken care of.
Community Project Update—Kathy Hutson gave an overview of her meeting with the Muncie Children's Museum administrators. Her report was previously provided to the board. Following discussion, the board agreed to participate with the Museum, utilizing the existing video presentations and materials, in their area called "The Amazing Body." This area consists of various simulated body parts for children to explore and learn about. Also, the Museum has a "free day" once a month on a Friday evening and again on a Saturday. These two days allow free access to the Museum for children and parents. It was agreed that this would be a good opportunity to reach out to the children and their parents by presenting information about all the body parts, the video topics, etc. It was suggested to recruit nursing alumni and students toward this effort. The opportunity could be published in The Link newsletter and presented at the annual Nursing Alumni Banquet. Kathy volunteered to provide pictures of our exhibit at the Museum and create a power point program for the board's review. It was mentioned that perhaps the pediatrics and community health classes could be recruited through Vicky Keller and Linda Sweigart, School of Nursing faculty of those classes, respectively. Connie McIntosh volunteered to check with the faculty. Kathy also will check on the availability of holding the next Nursing Alumni board of directors meeting at the Museum.
New Business
The Nursing Scholarship Committee scheduled a selection meeting for Monday, February 5, 2007, 5:00 p.m., at Jan Noel's office, Family Medicine Residency Center, 221 North Celia, Muncie. Scholarship applications and related data will be provided prior to the meeting.
The Outstanding Nursing Alumni Award Selection Committee will meet Saturday, February 3, 2007, 10:00 a.m., at the home of Nadia Paul,
The Nursing Alumni Banquet Planning Committee will schedule a meeting at the next Nursing Alumni board of directors meeting.
Department Update
No Report.
Alumni Association/Alumni Council Update
The next Council meeting will be Saturday, January 13, 2007.
Other Business
Nursing Alumni Society president's reference book—Ernie will start with a yearly timeline of meetings and agenda items. Former presidents are requested to send Ernie any additional information they might have for the book.
Future Meetings—
Tuesday, February 20, 2007, 5:30 p.m., Location to be determined.
Tuesday, April 10, 2007, 5:30 p.m., Alumni Center Board Room.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:40 p.m.
