Old Business
Nursing Historical Project—Ernie Krug reported that Pat McCallister has completed preliminary work on the project and is ready for the next step. A Journalism timeline illustration was circulated, as an example for consideration. After review and discussion, the board agreed to proceed with a Nursing timeline. Krug recommended that $200 be provided to fund the cost of the project, to include the professional services of BSU Alumni Communications staff member(s) to assist Pat to proceed with the project. Phyllis Chapin made a motion to provide $200 for the cost of the Nursing Historical Project. Kathy Hutson seconded the motion and it was approved by voice vote. The timeline can be produced in house by the Alumni Association and put on the Web. The goal is to have the project completed by Spring 2006 and have a minimal number of timeline copies available at the 2006 Nursing Alumni Banquet.
Nursing Pinning Ceremony—It was reported that the December 18, 2004 Pinning Ceremony went well. No problems were indicated.
Community Service Project—It was reported that video tape two is in progress and hopeful that tape three will be completed by April 2005. Connie will contact Sherri White to confirm whether or not Sherri will continue to serve as Nurse Molly in the videos.
New Business
2005 Outstanding Nursing Alumni Award—The Award Selection Committee met and recommended Pamela Jeffries, '76 as the 2005 award recipient. Pamela is associate professor at Indiana University School of Nursing in Indianapolis. Jan Noel made a motion to select Pamela Jeffries as the 2005 recipient of the Outstanding Nursing Alumni Award, Brandy Renz seconded the motion, and it was approved by voice vote. Connie will notify Pamela and a formal letter of congratulations will be sent to her, along with Banquet information.
2005 Fall Scholarships—The selection committee recommended eight recipients to receive a total of $14,500 in scholarships. A revision on the application will include the applicant's name on the back of the form. Following discussion, Jan Noel made a motion to approve the selection, Connie McIntosh seconded the motion, and it was approved by voice vote.
2005 Nursing Alumni Banquet—Saturday, April 30. There will be reunions for the Classes of 1950, 1975, and December 1994. It was requested to include the 19-Month, Second Degree graduates to the current list of guests to be recognized.
- Newsletter data needs to be submitted to Linda Siktberg by Monday, February 21.
- Pam Cole volunteered to order seven corsages for award recipient, most senior nurses, and farthest traveled.
- Mary Buckley, Phyllis Chapin, Connie McIntosh, and Ruth Ann Tolle will assist with registration. Linda will serve as liaison to the award recipient.
2005 Nursing Pinning Ceremony—Friday, May 6, 7:00 p.m., Emens Auditorium. Rehearsal will be Thursday, May 5, 2:00 p.m., Emens Auditorium. There are 62 graduates.
- Kathy Hutson and Shane House will represent the board of directors at a class meeting.
- Shane will take care of Emens stage equipment/services needs. All chairs are to be set up on one side of the stage for speakers, board of directors, and dignitaries.
- Pam Cole will order 62 carnations.
- Sherri White will order scissors. Connie will contact Sherri with the quantity to order.
- Brandy Renz and Ruth Ann Tolle will distribute the flowers and scissors.
- Pinning Program data needs to be submitted to Diane Blankenship by April 1. Krug suggested that the program needs to be redesigned to decrease printing costs in the future.
- Phyllis will arrange for students to distribute the programs.
- Connie will submit a revised board president's speech to Diane for future use.
Department Update
Linda reported that there will be 37 December 2005 graduates; 76 May 2006 graduates; and 80-85 May and December graduates in the future. There are 101 applications to review for eligibility for Fall 2005. Second degree and transfer applications are increasing.
Renovations continue. Completion of eight private rooms for competencies are scheduled for Fall 2005. The current campus lab is scheduled to be redone Summer 2005.
Anthem inquired about the department's equipment need. A proposal for a $154,358 ICU equipment lab has been submitted.
Alumni Council Update
Kathy Hutson reported that an Alumni Council meeting was held on January 29, 2005. Some of the professional alumni societies have a student mentoring program and Kathy suggested the possibility of one for Nursing. The board expressed interest in such a program and Krug will make arrangements for a BSUAA professional society liaison to present information about their respective mentoring program.
Alumni Association Update
Ernie reported that alumni programs and services continue to expand. Success of a program is no longer based solely on large numbers.
The next Nursing Alumni Board of directors meeting will be Tuesday, April 5, 2005, 5:30 p.m., Alumni Center Board Room.
