Mentorship Program
Tina Jones outlined the concept of the mentor program. The program will be launched on September 30 at the Alumni Day breakfast. This program will be for second year and up students. The number of mentors will match the number of interested students.
Jon Coddington suggested announcing the program to students by e-mail and also in eCAP and ReCAP. Jones will draft an announcement for the board to review.
A steering committee will be formed to oversee the matching of mentors and students. New suggestions for the program included matching mentors and students of the same sex, asking students if they prefer to be matched with mentors by geographic interest, firm type, etc.
Jeff Hall said that when they tried doing a mentor program in the past, it was not successful and a couple of the reasons may be due to more alumni interested in participating than students and they did not have e-mail communications.
Illingworth made a motion to make the mentor program a focus of the CAP Alumni Board of Directors under the direction of the vice-president (which will be Dean Illingworth for 2006). The motion was seconded by Jacoby and was approved by voice vote. Dean Illingworth will head the program with Jamie Lake (architecture), Tina Jones (landscape architecture) and Theresa Jeter-Newburn (planning) serving as the three committee members representing the three disciplines.
Mounayarsuggested having students sign up for the program during the declaration meetings in April and July. Lake suggested having students sign up sheets available during student leadership meeting. Lake volunteered to let the students contact him if they have any questions.
