Minutes

After a brief review of the February 25, 2004 minutes, Tina Jones made a motion to accept the corrected minutes, Doug Reddington seconded the motion, and the minutes were approved by voice vote.

Changes to minutes in the exhibitions section included:

  1. Changed the spelling of Malcom Cairns' last name in the first sentence.
  2. Added the word "suggested" after the word "Exhibits" and removed the words "once a month" in the second sentence.
  3. Added the words "could be" in the second sentence within the second paragraph.

Exhibitions

Tina Jones reported that Malcom Cairns has agreed to assist her and Ron Taylor with exhibits once a theme has been chosen.

Lecturers

Dean Bilello presented suggestions for guest lectures, consisting of previous alumni award winners, former faculty and emeritus faculty.  Lectures could be based on the impact BSU

had on the lecturers professionally, and the impact the lecturers have had on the community where they live.

Doug Reddington suggested that it might be difficult to schedule lecturers in November and December because of the holidays.

Jamie Lake suggested that the board should learn who might be available to speak on selected dates, then plan lectures.

Teresa Jeter-Newburn suggested contacting past alumni award winners, former faculty and emeriti faculty to see who is available to speak and when.  Then others could be selected to speak.

Tina Jones asked that equal representation from all departments of the college be selected.

The dean will have a list of lecturers for the next meeting.

Special Events

Jennifer Milliken suggested two questions that could be used to help organize the events.  The questions suggested are:

  • What impact has CAP had on you professionally?
  • What impact and legacy have you had on the world?

Milliken also suggested that previous alumni award winners could be asked these questions and alumni who lecture could have their work displayed and all others could have samples displayed as PowerPoint presentation.

Monograph & Publications

Diane Brenner has a copy of a publication published by AIA which will help with the organization of the timeline and publications.  The proposed template for the publication and submitted works is unfinished at this time.

Jamie Lake pointed out that not all alumni work submitted will fit on a disk.   He suggested that the work not selected could be used on a PowerPoint presentation and others put in a book.  Lake recommended asking distinguished alumni to submit their work digitally and select from that pool for the monograph.  The two questions suggested earlier could be used for the format for the submissions.

Jennifer Milliken suggested that a yearbook format   could be used as a type of printed monograph.

Tina Jones noted that the anniversary celebration is for the entire college rather than just alumni. Administrators, faculty, visiting faculty, and even the working staff at CAP have all contributed to the college's legacy and need to be included in the activities.

Alumni Communications

Doug Reddington did not receive responses from his initial e-mail to alumni regarding the 40-year Anniversary.  He will send a more-detailed e-mail to alumni.  It was suggested that he could ask questions about the impact and legacy CAP has had on alumni to help gain information to be used for the anniversary events.

Alumni Awards Dinner

September 18, 2004 is the date for the alumni awards dinner.  The event will be hosted at the Alumni Center. Planning has just begun.

Adjournment

The next planning meeting will be Thursday, May 6, at the Indy Center at noon.  The new location of the Indy Center is 22 East Washington Street, Suite 210.

Teresa Jeter-Newburn will send an e-mail explaining what information will be expected for the next meeting.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 1:20 p.m.
