President, Teresa Jeter-Newburn, called the meeting to order at 12:10 p.m.
Minutes
After a brief review of the January 21, 2004 minutes, Doug Reddington made a motion to accept, Dan Woodfin seconded the motion, and the minutes were approved by voice vote.
CAP 40th Year Anniversary
Dean Bilello recapped the basic structure for the year-long celebration as mentioned at the January 21 meeting. The Celebration will begin in January of 2005. There will be an article in the Alumnus magazine in January. A special recognition day will mark the actual anniversary on March 23, 2005. The Alumni Weekend in October 2005 will focus on the anniversary.
The year-long celebration has been divided into five areas. Those discussed included:
Exhibitions -- Ron Taylor and Tina Jones
Tina Jones will contact Malcom Cairns for assistance with displays. It was suggested that exhibits could rotate and could be coordinated with guest lecturers. Exhibits will be in the CAP building and at the Indy Center.
Suggested themes for the exhibits were discussed. The theme could be centered around the chronological and the impact aspects that the college has had with alumni and faculty during the past 40 years.
Monograph & Publications -- Scott Truex and Diana Brenner
Suggestions for monographs and publications included an alumni book, a snake timeline, and a digital format of alumni work. Dean Bilello suggested Dan Woodfin could help with the snake time line.
It was recommended that a mailer be sent to request alumni work. CAP alumni will be asked to submit their work digitally via the Internet. Information gathered can then be arranged by work and lectures that occurred in specific years. A template for the format of the digital work will be ready for review by the April 7, 2004 meeting. A limited edition book containing the top works might be printed.
Those people whose work or lectures appear in the book could possibly be asked to have their work put on exhibit or asked to be guest lecturers.
Alumni Communications -- Doug Reddington
Doug Reddington suggested having a teaser put in the March issue of eCAP to make alumni aware of events related to the anniversary. eCap can also be used to request work to be submitted by alumni. The Alumnus magazine can also list upcoming events each issue.
Special Events – Teresa Jeter-Newburn, Jennifer Milliken, and Jamie Lake with Mike McKay assisting with the event in the fall
Teresa Jeter-Newburn suggested the special events committee meet before the next planning meeting.
Dean Bilello asked that everyone submit suggestions for alumni to participate on the 2005 lecture series.
Adjournment
The next planning meeting will be Wednesday, April 7, at the Indy Center at noon. The new location of the Indy Center is 22 East Washington Street.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 1:20 p.m.
