Spring 2008 Sports – Coach of the Year Winners
The Alumni Association has announced six spring sports high school Coach of the Year awards. The award is presented to Indiana high school head coaches in all IHSAA-recognized sports. Recipients are recommended and selected by colleagues throughout the state and Ball State athletics representatives. This year's recipients are:
Matt Osborne, '92MA94, Centerville High School, Boy's Track
- First sectional title since 1989
- 2nd time recipient of this award (also received in 2004)
Joe Brinker, '98, Fort Wayne Carroll High School, Girl's Track
- 75-1 season win-loss record
- #4 ranking in the 5/20/08 coaches poll
- Conference, sectional, and regional champions (first regionals win since 1974)
- 7th year as head coach at Carroll High School
Pat Slama, '69, Zionsville High School, Girl's Tennis
- 2008 marked her 10th season as head coach at Zionsville
- Earned her 100th career win in 2005
- Since 1998, the Eagles have won 7 conference, 7 regional, and 3 semi-state championships
- Placed 4th in the state in 2002 and 2005, and were 3rd in 2003.
- Season win-loss record of 18-2
Scott Hall, '99, Pendleton Heights High School, Softball
- Season win-loss record of 27-6
- Career win-loss record of 250-59
- HHC conference and sectional wins
- 7 players received college scholarships to play Division I softball
Brad Baughman, '79, Brown County High School, Boy's Golf
- 4th place finish in the Bedford North Lawrence sectional (best finish in school history) with an 18 hole score of 326 (lowest sectional score for them ever)
- 12-4 dual and three way match record
- Ended the season with a nine hole stroke average of 163.8
- Junior Bryan Malloy advanced to regional and was a state qualifier his freshman year
Eric Lentz, '90MA97, Carmel High School, Baseball
- 24-4 season win-loss record
- Carmel Invitational Champions
- MIC (Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference) Champions
- Ranked in the Top 5 all season in IHSBCA Class 4A coaches poll
