Jenny Porter earned her bachelor's degree in Journalism from Ball State University in 2005, with a Secondary Education option and an English minor.

In May Jenny became the Media Coordinator for the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington. She had worked as a copy editor for the Southside Times newspaper in Beech Grove, Indiana, as copy editor/page designer for the Johnson County Daily Journal newspaper in Franklin, Indiana, and as a barista and shift supervisor at Starbucks before accepting her current position.

With talents in photography as well as writing, Jenny won a 2006 photography contest through Jones Soda and her work was displayed on Jones Diet Black Cherry Soda bottles throughout the United States and Canada.  In 2007 she won third place in the Associated Press Managing Editors headline writing contest.

While a student at Ball State, Jenny was involved in the Journalism Education Association, the Virginia B. Ball Center for Creative Inquiry, and the American Educational Studies Association.  She also was active in the Daily News, Journalism Department Student Leadership Council, and worked for Ball State University Communications and Ball State Media Workshops.

When asked how her Ball State University education helped her in her career, Jenny says, "Because of the program I chose, my coursework gave me experience in different areas and made me become more attractive to potential employers. I also worked for both Media Workshops and University Communications throughout my college career, and both gave me a great start with skills in writing, editing, design, event coordination, and communicating professionally.  A degree can only take you so far.  At some point you're going to have to prove what you can really do, and the more you've done the better."
