Ball State Alumni Coach of the Year Award Winners Announced (3/1/2007)
The Alumni Association has announced seven high school Coach of the Year awards for the Fall 2006 season. The award is presented to Indiana high school head coaches in all IHSAA-recognized sports. Recipients are recommended and selected by colleagues throughout the state and Ball State athletics representatives.

Boy's Tennis – Jim Clark, '68, Homestead High School

  • 11-2 season win-loss record
  • Conference, Sectional, and Regional Champs
  • IHSAA State Runner-Up (9th time in his coaching career)
  • #1 singles player Cameron Huffman, who also received the IHSAA Mental Attitude Award

Girl's Golf – Bill Mattingly, '76, Indianapolis Cathedral High School

  • Season record of 79-29
  • Career varsity girl's coaching record of 274-72
  • Indianapolis City Champions, Sectional Champs, 4th in regional, one individual state qualifier, and one individual city and sectional champion
  • Has been boy's head golf coach at Cathedral since 1990 and girl's head coach since 2004
  • Coach Mattingly was the recipient of the BSUAA Coach of the Year award for boy's golf in 2005

Soccer – Scott Coil, '00, Lowell High School

  • Season win-loss record of 13-6-1 (New School Record)
  • 2006 Sectional Champs and Regional Runner-Ups
  • New school record for highest team GPA (3.15 avg.)
  • New school record for most goals in a season (63)

Boy's Cross Country – Rick Torres, ‘00, Andrean High School

  • 1st place finishes at the Andrean, LaPorte, and Gavit Invitationals
  • LAC Conference, Sectional, and Regional Champs
  • 5th place finish at Semi-State, with team advancing to the State finals
  • This is coach's second consecutive year to receive this award

Girl's Cross Country – Steve Lewark, '68, West Lafayette High School

  • Season record of 209-17
  • Career record of 1,249-161
  • Hoosier Conference, Sectional, and Regional Champs
  • 2nd place finish at New Prairie Semi-State
  • 11th place finish at the State championship
  • 4-time recipient of this award

Volleyball – Kathy Nalley-Schembra, '72, Roncalli High School

  • Season win-loss record of 32-5
  • Ranked 18th in the country by Prep Volleyball
  • 3-A State Champions
  • This is her 35th year as head coach at Roncalli

    Football – Tim Dawson, '81, Concord High School

  • Season win-loss record of 14-1
  • Northern Lakes Conference Champions
  • 4A-State Runner Up
  • This is Coach Dawson's 18th year as head coach at Concord
