Joyce Jamerson

Joyce Jamerson earned her bachelor's degree from Ball State University in 1997 majoring in Elementary Education and her master's degree in education in 2002 from Indiana Wesleyan University.  Since graduation from Ball State, Joyce has been very involved in education and has "worn many hats" at one time.

From 1997 to 2002, Joyce was a teacher in the Muncie Community School system where she also served as Reading Coach from 2002 to 2004 and Technology Instructor from 2002 to 2005.  From 2004 to 2006 she owned the Jamerson's Village Christian Childcare Home where she managed the finances, employee evaluations, and marketing.  She currently is the Youth Writing Camp Coordinator and Consultant for the Indiana Writing Project and also a faculty member for Ball State's Department of Elementary Education.  Among her duties in the department is serving as Student Teaching Supervisor.  She has also taught numerous writing and professional development programs and workshops.

While a student at Ball State, Joyce was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Voices of Triumph Choir Black Student Association, and a founding member of Trendz of Essence Modeling Troup.  She still serves at Ball State as a member of the Board of Directors for the Black Alumni Constituent Society.

She and her husband, Derrick, a 1996 graduate of Ball State and principal of Longfellow Elementary School, reside in Muncie with their 3 children:  Jailah, age 11; Christian, age 6; and Briana, age 3.  Joyce says that they are all future BSU graduates!

When asked about her feelings toward BSU, Joyce says "I love Ball State University!!! I received a quality education that prepared me to become an outstanding elementary education teacher.  My degree and teaching license allowed me the opportunity to pursue my dreams and aspirations of becoming a teacher.  Now that I am a member of the Elementary Education faculty, I am able to impart wisdom and knowledge into the pre-service teachers who will go out into the world and educate the children of our world!"

Joyce had this advice for her fellow alumni, "Ball State is such a beautiful campus!  If you haven't been back in the last year, you need to come back for a walk around campus.  Come see the new landscaping, the new buildings, visit the Atrium for a delicious bite to eat, and stop by my office (TC 210) to say ‘hello'!"
