Ball State senior Ben Yoder (Elkhart, Ind./Concord Community H.S.) has been honored with the 2006 Ray Ashley Memorial Scholarship for service to Ball State University's Homecoming.

Yoder, a music education major, served on the 2006 Homecoming Steering Committee as the parade chairman.  A second-year committee member, Yoder coordinated and organized all the details and logistics for one of Ball State's longest standing and successful Homecoming traditions.  Additionally, he assisted in the overall planning and execution of all 2006 Homecoming events.

In addition to his involvement with Homecoming, Yoder participates as a BSU blogger, which highlights his experiences as a student via the Ball State University homepage and is used as a part of the university's marketing and recruiting efforts.  He is also President of Ball State's Collegiate Music Educator's National Conference chapter, a conductor with the East Central Indiana Youth Orchestra, chairperson of the Student Advisory Council in the School of Music, and a member of the American String Teacher's Association.

The Ashley Scholarship, a $1,500 stipend, is sponsored by the Ball State University Alumni Association.  It was established in memory of former Ball State Alumni Association staff member Ray Ashley, who devoted seventeen years to the promotion of Homecoming activities. This scholarship is given to help promote student involvement in Homecoming and provide recognition, as well as financial assistance, to BSU students who donate their time, energy, and talents to Homecoming.
